Mighty Fine Music is owned and operated by Ricky Davis and Archie Cox Jr., who are both steel players in their own right.  Archie (an architect and musician) and Ricky (a professional steel guitar player) have designed and built the SS HAWAIIAN, inspired by the famous Fender Stringmaster steel guitar.

About Ricky Davis

The Star of the Show - SS Hawaiian!
Ricky Davis is best known as the steel guitar player for Dale Watson, and as a rising star in his own right among steel guitar players. Ricky grew up listening to the music of Ray Price, Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Bob Wills, but had no real interest in becoming a musician until one day in the early 1980s when he heard  Ricky Skaggs'  "Cryin' my heart out over you" on the radio.  It was the outspoken steel guitar of Bruce Bouton that sold Ricky on learning to play steel guitar.
Playing   steel guitar started out as just a hobby for Ricky until 1988 when he got to know Texas singer-songwriter Larry Joe Taylor.  Taylor introduced Ricky to other Texas singer-songwriters such as  Gary P. Nunn, Tommy Alverson, Ronnie Spears, Ed Burleson, Pat Green, Brian Black, Davin James.  But, Ricky's assocation with Dale Watson began unexpectedly.

"I got a call one day for the Dale Watson gig, and I had to say that I never heard of the man.  I told him to send me some of his music and I got it and listened to one song and called Dale Watson and told him "You found your steel player". This is the Real Country music I've been wanting to play since I took up the steel guitar."
Ricky's steel guitar influences are Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green, Hal Rugg, Jimmy Day, Pete Drake, John Hughey and all the steel players who played with Bob Wills.   Ricky plays a 1975 Sho-Bud Pro11 double-10, a 1960 Fender triple-8 Stringmaster Hawaiian steel, and, of course, the SS HAWAIIAN.
"I stand behind the SS Hawaiian."

About Archie Cox

Here's Archie, hard at work on his SS Hawaiian.  By the look on that elephant's face, I'd say Archie's burning up the strings.  "Whoa, Jumbo!"
